Windmill Farms and the Beauty of Palm Springs

Share

How sad that the beauty of the Palm Springs windmills is not seen by viewers! Recently as I drove there with friends, we talked of our anticipation of them, reveled in their dignity and movement when we saw them, and turned for a farewell glance as we left.

There are many things that man has made that pollute the desert--fill in your own items. A man-made “forest” that returns something to the people while using the God-given resource of wind does not pollute. The whir I have heard has a beauty of its own.

Do those who complain of the sound of the “large generating plant” control the volume of their motor vehicles and stereos? To each his/her own music?

Should the windmills be removed, would they be for sale? I can imagine that many neighborhoods would set up cooperatives to produce their own electricity.

If not too many “six-story resort hotel complexes with 200 to 300 condos and 36-hold golf courses” are developed, the desert will always have its beauty. It can contribute to us in a practical way, too, if our priorities are proper.
