The City Council agreed this week to allow the Redondo Beach Medical Group to continue offering health classes at its Health Enrichment Center on Torrance Boulevard even though the group has been operating the center without a school license.

The council voted unanimously to allow the classes to continue while the medical group seeks a permit from the Planning Department. City Atty. Gordon C. Phillips said the center has been running with a business license that does permit an “assembly of students.”

Residents complained about the classes last week during a lengthy discussion at a council meeting about parking problems at the medical group’s two health facilities on Torrance Boulevard. Some residents said students attending the classes were worsening already severe parking shortages on nearby residential streets.
