Junior Lifeguard Program:Boys and girls who plan to spend their summer vacation at the beach can enroll in San Clemente’s Junior Lifeguard program. Offered by the city’s Marine Safety Department, the program is open to boys and girls between 10 and 17. Classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for five weeks beginning June 24 and July 29. Beach games, field trips and surfing are part of the activities that junior lifeguards will enjoy. For older children, the Marine Safety Department will be offering surfing classes that will provide basic surfing instruction to the beginner as well as expert instruction for accomplished surfers upgrading their skills. Topics covered will also include surfing safety, physical conditioning and selection and care of surfboards. Classes will meet for six weeks on Saturday mornings, beginning June 22 and Aug. 3.
