The lava dome of Mt. St. Helens continued to give off heat but apparently had not grown significantly overnight, scientists said in Vancouver, Wash., a day after saying an eruption was likely within days. Clouds prevented firsthand observations at the summit, but an airplane took infrared photographs of the 800-foot dome in the volcano’s crater, U.S. Forest Service spokesman Thom Corcoran said. “We don’t believe an eruption has begun,” Corcoran said.
