16 in Marriage Party Killed in Truck Crash
A truck carrying a marriage party plunged into a gorge in northern India, killing 16 people and injuring 30, the Press Trust of India reported Friday.
At least 15 of the 30 people injured in the crash were listed in serious condition, the domestic news agency said.
The accident occurred Thursday near Dharampur, about 160 miles north of New Delhi, in rugged Himachal Pradesh state, the Press Trust said. The cause of the crash was not known.
The local government announced it was awarding compensation equivalent to about $80 each to the victims’ relatives.
