A 358-foot-long sailing ship, the four-masted Nippon Maru, may be viewed at the Port of Long Beach for four days beginning today. The ship will be on display at Pier D, Berth 31-A, south of the Gerald Desmond Bridge, and will be open for public tours Sunday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. It will leave port early Monday.

Berth 31-A can be reached from Water Street off Harbor Scenic Drive, which is reached from the north via the Long Beach Freeway, and from the east and west via Ocean Boulevard.

The tall ship, which has 36 sails, carries 117 crew members on annual summer training missions for future Japanese merchant marine officers. The Long Beach stop will mark the completion of its first transpacific voyage.
