General Dynamics will close its Quincy shipyard.
The defense contractor said it will shut its 101-year-old facility in Massachusetts and lay off the yard’s 2,300 remaining employees. The company said the closure was necessary because it has been unable to win contracts to build new Navy vessels. At its peak during World War II, the shipyard employed 32,000 workers.
