ON THE COVER: Cap’n O.G. Readmore, a bright, articulate cat who generally seems to have a book in his hand, will be joined this season by humans Pat Morita and Jill Whelan to host “ABC Weekend Specials,” the Saturday morning series that offers TV adaptations of contemporary and classic children’s literature.
The Cap’n has lived in an alley behind a library most of his life, so he’s big on reading. And on the series, he encourages young viewers to read the books upon which the films are based.
The season premiere presentation of “ABC Weekend Specials” is a two-parter titled “The Adventures of Con Sawyer and Hucklemary Finn,” based on Mark Twain’s classic stories. Drew Barrymore stars as Con Sawyer and Brandy Ward is Hucklemary Finn. The story wraps up Saturday at 11 a.m. on Channels 7, 3, 10 and 42.
