Five civilians were injured in the bombing of a village police station, police said Thursday.

Police said a time bomb was left in a van parked outside the station in Ballinamallard, County Fermanagh, and houses were damaged when it blew up late Wednesday, injuring residents.

Police said that there was an anonymous telephone warning before the blast but that they did not have time to evacuate every home.

Police attributed the bombing to the outlawed Irish Republican Army, fighting British rule in the province.
