Pico Rivera : No Fight Over Annexation

Share

City officials have decided not to oppose South El Monte’s efforts to annex a 264-acre industrial area on Pico Rivera’s north side. Because the county is developing a regional park between Pico Rivera and the undeveloped industrial park land, it would be too expensive and impractical for Pico Rivera to annex the property, City Manager Dennis Courtemarche said.

In September, 1984, the county’s Local Agency Formation Commission had ruled that the 264 acres between Peck Road, the San Gabriel River and the 605 Freeway was in Pico Rivera’s sphere of influence. But South El Monte officials have sought to annex the area for several years in hopes of attracting new business to boost city revenues.

Courtemarche said efforts to block the annexation were dropped after county Supervisor Pete Schabarum announced plans to build a regional park between the city limits and the disputed property.
