Southern California’s Technology Corridor

Share

An article on the Technology Corridor Assn. (March 26) asks why, since Northern California has an area named for its high-technology business boom, shouldn’t Southern California have one as well.

The answer? It already does. In recent years, the Technology Corridor, stretching from and including Woodland Hills to Newbury Park, has seen a tremendous business growth and an influx of technology-based--not just high-technology--firms, including: First Interstate Bank; Exxon; Kaiser Permanente; Blue Cross of Southern California; General Telephone of California; Lockheed.

And while some people have expressed concern that the name Technology Corridor does not correctly describe the 26-mile area, nothing could be further from the truth. In choosing the name Technology Corridor, the TCA is simply describing a phenomenon of growth that began long before the association was formed last October.

This growth is expected to continue, but not unchecked. The TCA is very concerned with maintaining an environmental balance in the area. The TCA’s leaders have chosen the area for their development projects specifically because of the region’s beauty; they are dedicated to preserving that beauty and are all proponents of planned growth.

The TCA’s goal is to promote not only business, but also cultural and community growth within the entire Technology Corridor--while protecting the area’s scenic environment and encouraging better planning. By doing so, the TCA hopes to benefit all those who live and work in this beautiful and productive region.
