“Linda Ronstadt’s Greatest Hits.” Asylum. AAD. It may seem like ancient history, but Ronstadt was a wonderfully engaging country-and-rock-edged singer before becoming obsessed with pre-’50s ballads. This 12-selection refresher ranges from the hoedown spirit of “Silver Threads and Golden Needles” to the delicate romanticism of “Desperado.” Unfortunately, the package reflects the lazy school of CD merchandising: Rather than take advantage of the 70-minute musical capacity of CDs, it simply repeats the 38 minutes of the vinyl “greatest hits” LP. Sound quality: fair.
