Negotiations for the sale of the New York Mets to Board Chairman Nelson Doubleday, team President Fred Wilpon and the MCA Corp. are under way, two New York newspapers reported. Doubleday & Co., the publishing firm now owns a controlling interest.

Newsday and the New York Post said that MCA would emerge with controlling interest. The Newsday story added that Wilpon probably would end up with a slightly larger share than Doubleday.
