Twenty-nine telephone company linemen returned to their jobs in Needham, Mass., after doctors reassured them that a colleague with AIDS poses no threat to their health. Paul Cronan, 31, returned to work Tuesday after a yearlong absence and the settlement of a $1.5-million lawsuit against the New England Telephone Co. The next day, 29 of Cronan’s 44 co-workers refused to pick up work orders at their office. Kay Moore, wife of the shop steward, said that most of the families were not aware that doctors believe that AIDS is a virus spread through sexual intercourse or contact with blood and blood products.
