Roundup : Montgomery 14, Helix 6

Montgomery held eighth-seeded Helix to just two field goals for a 14-6 first-round victory in a 3-A first round game at La Mesa.

Quarterback Troy Beals threw a 14-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to provideninth-seeded Montgomery the winning margin.

Sophomore kicker Ed Evilsizor kicked a 36-yard field goal to give Helix (7-3) a 3-0 lead.

Beals’ touchdown throw put Montgomery ahead for good early in the second quarter.

Evilsizor added a 52-yard field goal in the third quarter to cut the lead to 7-6.

But running back Kevin Crawford scored on a seven-yard run in the third quarter to seal the win for Montgomery (8-2-1).
