Fullerton : Grant Won by Clinic Headed by Professor
A Cal State Fullerton political science professor is in charge of a free clinic that is one of only two in the nation to receive AIDS education grants this year from the National Centers for Disease Control.
Michael E. Brown, in addition to his faculty position, serves as executive director of the Center/Long Beach, one of the first AIDS testing sites in the nation. The clinic has administered more AIDS tests than any other clinic.
The Centers for Disease Control granted $604,000 to the Center/Long Beach for counseling sessions with people before and after they take the test to see if they have AIDS antibodies in their blood.
The information gathered from the counseling sessions will be used in shaping an education campaign to combat the spread of the deadly disease.
