Israel’s Shin Bet security service will no longer be supervised only by the prime minister but also by the defense and foreign ministers, the Hadashot newspaper reported. It said the change is based on recommendations by a government panel that investigated disclosures that Shin Bet agents beat to death two Palestinians arrested in a bus hijacking in 1984. A separate report by the Justice Ministry this week exonerated high government officials, including Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, in the case. Shamir said he hopes the latest report will end the scandal.
