Chargers Hire Sevier as Special Teams Coach

Wayne Sevier was hired Wednesday for his second tour as special teams coach of the Chargers.

Sevier, 45, was special teams coach at San Diego in 1979 and ’80. He has been the special teams coach for the Washington Redskins the past eight seasons.

Sevier, a graduate of SDSU and Sweetwater High School, was Don Coryell’s first starting quarterback at San Diego State in 1961 and led the Aztecs to their first California Collegiate Athletic Assn. title in 1962. He was head coach at Sweetwater in 1965.
