Dr. Mark F. Anapoell has been elected chief of staff of AMI San Dimas Community Hospital. Anapoell, a vascular surgery specialist, graduated from New York Medical College. He is a member of the California Medical Assn. and serves on the Insurance Review Committee for the Los Angeles County Medical Assn. Anapoell has served on the board of directors of the hospital since it was founded in 1972. He lives in Pasadena.

Douglas Smith and Henry Madariaga, animal control officers for the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society for the past two years, have been named state humane officers. Smith and Madariaga, both 22, will assume statewide duties without leaving the humane society, which serves Azusa, Covina, Glendora, Monrovia, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Temple City and West Covina.

Dr. Orville Mestad, a retired dentist, has been appointed chairman of the Foothill Presbyterian Hospital Board of Directors. Mestad is a former member of the San Gabriel Valley Dental Society, the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce and the Arcadia Lions Club. He lives in Glendora.

Kent W. Kurtz, an ornamental horticulture professor at Cal Poly Pomona, has been awarded the Lawn Ranger Award by the Sports Turf Managers Assn. The award is given for quality turf management. Kurtz lives in Ontario.

Beth Harnick has been named curator of collections for the Pasadena Historical Society. Harnick previously worked with the City of Brea on the Brea Community History Project. Harnick received an undergraduate degree from Cal State Fullerton and is completing a graduate degree in American studies.

William A. Cook has been named academic vice president of the University of La Verne. Cook replaces Don Clague, who retired. Cook has undergraduate and graduate degrees in English and a doctorate in American literature. He previously was dean of academic affairs at Johnson State College in Vermont.
