In his new role as “good-will ambassador” for UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, entertainer Harry Belafonte will testify Wednesday before the House Appropriations subcommittee on foreign operations. The first good-will ambassador, Danny Kaye, who died this year, served in the role for 33 years. Belafonte’s first UNICEF mission was to Dakar, Senegal, where he was chairman of a symposium last month on the health and well-being of African children. He will testify before the subcommittee chaired by Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.) on what he learned about child survival and development programs during that visit.
