Rams to Make 4 Prime-Time TV Appearances

The Raiders will open on the road for the 15th time in 18 seasons, and the Rams will make four prime-time television appearances, including a season-ending Sunday night game at San Francisco, according to the 1987 National Football League schedule released Tuesday.

Three of the Rams’ games will be played on Monday nights: Oct. 26 at Cleveland, Nov. 23 at Washington and Dec. 21 against Dallas at Anaheim Stadium. The 5 p.m. game Dec. 27 at Candlestick Park will be shown by ESPN, which recently acquired the rights to some NFL games.

The game with the 49ers will be a rematch of last season’s regular-season finale. San Francisco won that one, 24-14, for the NFC Western Division title, depriving the Rams, who had had a 1 1/2-game lead with two games remaining.

Other highlights on the schedule include a Nov. 29 home game against Tampa Bay, which recently signed quarterback Vinny Testaverde, the Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Miami.

The Raiders, who are 24-4-1 on “Monday Night Football,” will play three prime-time games, but all on the road: Oct. 12 at Denver and Nov. 30 at Seattle on ABC, and Nov. 15, a Sunday, at San Diego on ESPN.

This season will mark only the fifth time in the 18-year history of “Monday Night Football” that the Raiders will not play as the host team.

The Raider schedule also includes games against AFC champion Denver, AFC runner-up Cleveland and both teams from Super Bowl XX, Chicago and New England. They will play the Patriots Nov. 1 at Foxboro, Mass., and will play host to the Bears Dec. 27 in the season finale.

This will be the first time Chicago will play the Raiders in a regular-season game in Los Angeles. That also holds true for the Buffalo Bills Dec. 6 and the Detroit Lions Sept. 20, the home opener.
