The judge in the trial of subway gunman Bernhard H. Goetz held an emergency hearing because three television reporters tried to contact jurors and warned he may be forced to call a mistrial if it happens again. The unidentified reporters from different stations were taken to task by state Supreme Court Justice Stephen Crane and their supervisors apologized. Crane said no action would be taken at this time. “I cannot express the shock and horror I feel that after four months of jury selection, the efforts that we have made here may be threatened by contacts of this kind to sworn jurors,” Crane said.
