The Region : Rancho Mirage Supports Smoking Ban

A tough ordinance banning smoking in the work place and most public places has won the City Council’s preliminary approval in Rancho Mirage. The proposed law, which still must be voted on a second time April 30, allows smoking only in residences, private offices, private hospital rooms, psychiatric facilities, bars and tobacco stores in the desert resort community. Under the ordinance’s terms, employers are not permitted to set aside special areas for their employees who smoke.
