At least 12 visitors to a men’s jail facility in East Los Angeles were arrested for trying to smuggle in drugs and weapons, authorities said. Eight women and one man were arrested for bringing drugs to the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Biscailuz Center Jail, said Deputy Stephen Lee. Three other women, one carrying a gun, the other a knife and the third a billy club, were arrested for bringing weapons into the complex. In addition, a man driving onto the compound at 1060 N. Eastern Ave. was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving, Lee said. The arrests were made as deputies conducted one of their periodic searches of all vehicles and people visiting inmates. All visitors and their vehicles are subject to such searches, Lee said, adding, however, that jail officials usually do not search everyone.
