ROYAL PHILHARMONIC SET FOR APPEARANCE AT CENTER
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London will appear next January at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in one of several schedule changes the Orange County Philharmonic Society announced this week for its 1987-1988 season.
The Royal Philharmonic, conducted by Enrique Batiz, will perform Jan. 17, replacing a May 27 concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic that has been canceled.
“The (Los Angeles Philharmonic) was taking too long about making an absolute commitment to us, and we couldn’t wait before getting out our brochures,” Erich Vollmer, the society’s executive director, said to explain the switch to the Royal Philharmonic.
Other announced program changes, most of which were made due to scheduling problems, include:
--Addition of an April 5 recital by pianist Leonid Kuzmin, which replaces a canceled Jan. 18 duo recital by violinist Joshua Bell and pianist Jean-Ives Thibaudet.
--Addition of an April 10 concert by the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Christof Perick, with baritone Thomas Hampson as soloist. This replaces the canceled Feb. 8 performance by the chamber orchestra conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk, with guitar soloist Christopher Parkening.
Vollmer said the changes affect all three of the society’s subscription series, but that each series still will have six performances.
