Sierra Madre : Mountain Access Limited
Sierra Madre has limited access to the mountains before the usual July 1 closure date due to high brush and lack of rainfall last winter.
However, those who want to use mountain hiking trails such as Bailey Canyon Road and Mt. Wilson Trail at points that start in the city must apply for a free one-day permit at the Police Department. Permits will not be issued on days when the U. S. Forest Service forecasts extremely dry conditions.
