Oceanside
A bullet shattered the driver’s side window of an Oceanside Police Department van Monday morning as two unarmed police officers were driving east on Mission Avenue near Old Grove Road, a Police Department spokesman said.
Public service officers Richard Martinez and Andrea Hart were on their way to pick up money from the toll booth at the Murray Road Bridge at 9:40 a.m. when someone shot at their marked police van from the side of the road, said Police Department spokesman Bob George.
Martinez, who was driving, ended up with a lapful of glass, but no one was hurt, George said. Police do not have any suspects or leads in the case, he said.
No bullet or gun was found, but based on the facts that the bullet shattered the glass and pushed open the car door lock, the bullet was probably shot from a gun at least as powerful as a .22-caliber rifle, George said.
