Get Rid of McEnroe, Not the Microphone
Leave it to John McEnroe to blame television for his outburst at the U.S. Open. Although television is to blame for many problems in professional tennis (for example, the men’s semifinal being played at 10 a.m. EDT in this year’s Open), it certainly is not to blame for boorish and rude behavior on the part of players.
In addition, the court-side microphone is essential for the television audience. Next time, McEnroe should be punished even more severely.
