Mark Shepherd Jr. announced his retirement Friday as chairman of Texas Instruments Inc., Dallas, effective April 21.

TI President and Chief Executive Jerry R. Junkins will assume the additional title of chairman upon Shepherd’s retirement.

Commenting on his nearly 40 years with TI, Shepherd said: “Not many people in their lives have the opportunity--and the privilege--of helping to build not only a great company, but also an industry that has had as profound an impact on society as the semiconductor industry. I am deeply grateful to the founders of TI for affording me that privilege. As to the future, I am confident that Texas Instruments is in very good hands.”
