Cabrillo Park Fees to Change Jan. 1

Vehicle entrance fees to San Diego’s famed Cabrillo National Monument will be adjusted Jan. 1, when all cars entering the national park will be charged $3 each regardless of the number of people inside. The new fee was announced Monday by the U.S. National Park Service and will take effect nine months after the park service enacted the first entrance fee ever to the historic landmark in March. Currently, visitors are charged $3 per car, or $1 per person, whichever is less.

Park visitors who enter on foot, bicycle or in tour buses will continue to be charged $1 each. A Cabrillo Passport that is good for one calendar year is also available and sells for $10. It permits the purchaser and guests unlimited entrance privileges as long as they drive to the park in a private vehicle.

An annual Golden Eagle Passport is also available for $25 and allows the holder access to all national parks and monuments.

Free lifetime permits are also available to seniors who are 62 years or older and to U.S. residents, regardless of age, who are permanently disabled.
