On the Hunt for a Moist and Tiny Towel

Share

Helen Hall of Hollywood needs to find some “Towlettes” or other moist , individual , thin towels, folded down to about two square inches, in sealed wrappings; all she sees these days are the pull-out types in tall containers. Can you help before Helen has to get out the crying towel, or will she never again feel dry behind the ears?

Here’s another call for old-fashioned curtain stretchers. The last time we found no retail sources, but several readers said they had curtain stretchers and wouldn’t mind giving them up. By any stretch of the imagination, is it possible that we get those names again, so that we can compile an up-to-date list of curtain-stretcher owners?

We have another request that seems to be stretching things a bit. Shirley Weinstein of South Pasadena has a hand-knit , Irish wool , fisherman’s pullover that she would like to change either into a cardigan or equip with a zipper in the back ; she wants to avoid having her hair mussed up. Can you help with a source that Weinstein can just zip over to, or will she be convinced that somebody is trying to pull the wool over her eyes?

For Robert Mehnert of Oceanside and Alta Shotwell of Glendale, both of whom wanted Rennet tablets, we have a number of sources. Clifford A. Coons, vice president of Grocers Specialty, says that they distribute the tablets to Alpha Beta, Lucky and Big Bear markets and that a request to the manager should bring results. Anne MacLean and Mrs. William Solomon say that Stater Bros. stocks Rennet. Susan Self of San Diego writes that Greentree Grocers, 3560 Mt. Acadia Drive, Clairemont, might be a place Mehnert could investigate. We also have these mail-order forms: The New England Cheesemaking Supply Co., P.O. Box 85, Ashfield, Me. 01330 (from Brenda Rich of Cantil); Nichols Garden Nursery, 1190 N. Pacific Highway, Albany, Ore. 97321-4598 (from Pam Reid of Whittier), and the Vermont Country Store, P.O. Box 3000, Manchester Center, Vt. 05255-3000 (from Trudy Bell of Oxnard, Janet Cornish of Goleta, E. Romaine of Los Angeles and Mrs. Floyd Draper of Norwalk). Salada Foods, 1 Hansen Island, Little Falls, N.Y. 13365, is the manufacturer and will supply names of nearby outlets (from Mary Wood of Van Nuys, Anne Scanlin of Ojai and Polly Lefcoe of Santa Monica).

Herb Hain cannot answer mail personally but will, space permitting, respond in this column to readers who need--or have--helpful information. Write (do not telephone) to You Can Help!, You section, the Times, Times Mirror Square, Los Angeles 90053.
