The grand opening of the McCallum Theater at the Bob Hope Cultural Center in Palm Springs--scheduled for the New Year’s weekend--is going to have some notable attendees: President and Mrs. Reagan, former President Gerald Ford and his wife Betty (who live at nearby Rancho Mirage) and former President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter. Singer Mary Martin will be on hand for the opening, which also will mark her 50th year in show business. Many of Hope’s colleagues from the entertainment world will perform at the opening, which is scheduled to be taped for later use as an NBC special. Proceeds from the sale of tickets--ranging from $2,500 to $10,000--will be donated to the theater’s endowment.
