A Korean Air Lines flight from Seoul to Los Angeles was delayed for six hours at the Honolulu International Airport while the plane was searched for explosives after a couple disembarked without telling authorities, officials said today.

The delay occurred Monday when airline officials could not locate a Japanese couple who boarded the plane during a stop in Tokyo, said Korean Air’s Honolulu Station Manager Seyoun Oh.

Airline officials asked that the Boeing 747 be searched when the couple did not get back on the plane.

A Korean Air jet carrying 115 passengers disappeared over Burma last month. A couple who left the plane on an earlier stop are suspected of planting a bomb which caused the crash.

It took about three hours Monday for a bomb-sniffing dog and his handler to get to the airport. A two-hour search of the jumbo jet turned up no explosives.

The airline finally managed to locate the couple at a hotel in Waikiki.
