Another dance of death by the relentlessly morbid Christopher Bruce, this one-act vehicle for Sweden’s Cullberg Ballet begins with the murder of John Lennon and then offers choreographic flashbacks: days in the life. Lennon’s recording of his song “Mother” accompanies depictions of parental rejection. Authority figures traumatize the young to “Working Class Hero”--you get the idea. All the claptrap of the sensitive-young-man ballet is duly trotted out, but Lennon and his music end up diminished by this cold, literal dance-bio with its hand-me-down movement vocabulary, slow-motion death throes and other artsy cliches. Nicely danced, Birgit Cullberg’s wildly overwrought “Family Portrait” completes the program. It superimposes the cast--including Eva Evdokimova as the neurotic mother--on paintings by Manet, Monet, Renoir, Turner, Da Vinci and others. However, the lush pictorialism seldom suits either the scenario (love, lust, alcoholism and incipient incest) or the accompaniment (an elegant Tchaikovsky piano trio). Information: (800) 826-3456 **
