A.H. Robins reported a loss of $1.63 billion for 1987, contrasted with a profit of $81.8 million the previous year. Sales rose to $855.8 million, up 8% for the year. For the fourth quarter, the firm lost $1.69 billion while sales rose 11% to $234.8 million. The Richmond, Va.-based maker of Robitussin cough syrup, Dimetapp cold medicine and Chap Stick lip balm said the results reflect funds set aside to pay Dalkon Shield injury claims and costs related to its Chapter 11 reorganization plan. Robins has agreed to be taken over by American Home Products Corp.
