Obituaries : Albert Schwartz; Early Radio, TV Writer

Albert (Al) Schwartz, an Emmy-award winning writer who was part of the original writing team when “The Bob Hope Show” went on the air on Sept. 27, 1938, died Saturday of the complications of emphysema. He was 77.

Schwartz wrote for dozens of radio shows and some early television programs. His first TV credits came in 1955 and included “The Milton Berle Show” and “December Bride.” Later shows included “Gilligan’s Island” and three of the TV movies crafted from that long-running series; “Here’s Lucy,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Chico and the Man,” “Good Times” and “The Brady Bunch.”

In 1960-61 he shared an Emmy for several episodes of “The Red Skelton Show” and was nominated again the following season.

Survivors include his wife, Mimi, two sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and two brothers.
