An American Roman Catholic priest wanted in connection with major Mafia drug-trafficking operations was questioned by an Italian investigating magistrate after being captured in the north of Italy. Col. Mario Fani, spokesman for the customs police, said Father Lorenzo Zorza, 46, was arrested in a house near Bologna and taken to Rome. The spokesman said Zorza was taken to prison after interrogation by magistrate Margherita Gerunda, who ordered his arrest on charges of Mafia association and narcotics trafficking between Italy and the United States. Zorza was born in Italy but has U.S. citizenship. The priest was convicted in 1982 of smuggling stolen art works to the United States.
