Local News in Brief : Officer Is Fired, Faces Charges
The Hawthorne Police Department has fired a patrolman accused of writing bad checks to local businesses, fellow officers and City Councilman Charles Bookhammer.
Officer James Dean White, 29, was terminated Friday and faces a June 2 preliminary hearing in Municipal Court on three felony charges of writing bad checks, a police official said.
The criminal charges stem from four bad checks, totaling $1,061, that White allegedly wrote to a 7-11 store, auto shop and two liquor stores.
The six-year police veteran could not be reached for comment.
