Congress Authorizes New POW Medal
Congress has authorized the creation and distribution of a new Prisoner of War Medal, which is available free of charge to all former prisoners of war held captive after April 5, 1917.
In applying for a medal, a former POW or the next of kin must furnish the prisoner’s name, date of birth, service number, and if possible, the name of the prison camp and dates of incarceration.
Applications should be made in writing to one of the following records centers:
--Former Army POWs: U.S. Army Reserve Personnel center, ATTN: DARP-PAS-EAW, 9700 Page Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132-5200.
--Former Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard POWs: U.S. Navy Liaison Office, National Personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132-5199.
--Former Air Force and Army Air Corps POWs: Air Force Reference Branch, National Personnel Records Center, 9700 Page Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63132-5199.
