Local News in Brief : 2nd Budget Meeting Is Set
In an effort to resolve a projected $359,910 shortfall in the 1988-89 budget, the Lawndale City Council will hold a second workshop on city finances at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 14717 Burin Ave.
At the council’s first workshop Wednesday, acting City Manager Paula J. Cone said the shortfall is due to increased salary costs and legal fees in the city’s suit against two brokerage companies involved in the city’s loss of $1.68 million in a speculative securities investment last year.
The council reviewed the proposed budget line by line, but made no decisions on cuts. After the cuts are determined in budget workshops, a public hearing will be held to obtain additional community input before the document is adopted, officials said.
