OBITUARIES : William Bougher; Pioneer in Radar
William George Bougher, a retired electronics engineer who helped develop radar for the United States before this nation entered World War II, has died at the age of 69.
Bougher, who died of cancer at his home here last Friday, was one of a handful of scientists and engineers who helped adapt the British system of providing early warning against approaching enemy aircraft to America’s defense network. At the time, 1940, he was working for the Bendix Corp. in Baltimore.
After the war he joined Philco Corp. in Philadelphia as a technical representative at military installations and last worked for the company at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo.
