Dukakis Pays Visit to King Grave, Lauds ‘Man of Inspiration’

Michael S. Dukakis visited the grave of Martin Luther King Jr. today and praised the slain civil rights leader as “a man of action, a man of inspiration.”

Standing on a stage with King’s widow and with chosen running mate Lloyd Bentsen, Dukakis cited his own background as the son of Greek immigrants and quoted the words of King: “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.”

“Martin Luther King was a man of action, a man of inspiration,” Dukakis said. “He cared very deeply about some basic human values.”

Coretta Scott King told Dukakis: “We wish you well in this effort because we are counting on you to set things right again.”
