Senate Swap on Offshore Oil
Thank you, Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy! Getting both Lease Sales 91 and 95 delayed is a big victory for California’s coast. It shows what can happen when Americans rally to save one of their most precious resources (“Senate Offshore Oil Swap Plan Enrages Ecologists,” Part I, July 14).
That Alaska was substituted shows how fundamentally flawed Interior Secretary Donald Hodel’s five-year plan is. Any proposal that would despoil the magnificent Mendocino coast, the popular Santa Monica Bay or the unique Bristol Bay needs to be ditched--permanently.
