A warrant was issued Tuesday for a suspect police say they believe was involved in the July 1 shooting death of a 16-year-old girl at a birthday party.

The girl, Ly Hoang of Anaheim, died when she was struck by a bullet that passed through the wooden door of a garage on the 100 block of North Jackson Street, where a birthday party was being held.

Police were searching for the suspect, Khuong Tran, 22, who has lived in Santa Ana during the last year, according to Maureen Thomas, department spokeswoman. Tran is described as 5-foot-4, weighing 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Authorities believe Tran still lives in Orange County and drives a 1980 red Honda with California license 2ATN411.
