ASUNCION, Paraguay —
The government has expelled a Spanish Jesuit priest for his recent remarks in favor of liberation theology, the Roman Catholic radio station Caritas reported.
Juan Antonio de la Vega, 65, was escorted by police Monday across a bridge into the Argentine town of Clorinda, according to a statement by the priest broadcast by Caritas.
De la Vega was arrested 11 days ago and questioned about liberation theology, a movement that advocates political change as a way of achieving social reform. He later was released.
