Lord, Geller, Federico, Einstein Inc., the New York advertising agency fired recently by International Business Machines Corp., said it was laying off about a third of its 270 employees. The firm said the cuts are effective immediately and were intended “to match the level of its current and anticipated business.” IBM announced Sept. 2 that it was firing its longtime ad agency, which created the memorable campaign featuring a Charlie Chaplin-like character and the more recent one reuniting the former stars of the television show “M-A-S-H.”
