Local News in Brief : Celebrity Auction Raises $6,000

A few residents of Lawndale are in store for memorable experiences after placing winning bids at a celebrity auction held last week by Soroptimist International of Lawndale-South Bay.

Don and Connie Deford placed the winning bid of $500 for a limousine ride and dinner with Lawndale Mayor Sarann Kruse. Linda and Larry Gallagher bid $425 for a chance to schedule an appearance of the Leuzinger High School Band at an event of their choice.

Bernie Bishop auctioned prizes including a Bible page from the Middle Ages, a $150 dinner at the Brown Derby restaurant, and a “White Christmas” consisting of a front yard frosted with artificial snow to be donated by Lawndale Councilwoman Carol Norman.

The Soroptimist Club, a businesswomen’s organization, reported raising about $6,000 for the Substance and Narcotics Education (SANE) program and other charities through the event at Alondra Golf Course Clubhouse.
