Reed Gloshen, 46, of Cypress and a group of construction company employees went to retrieve the backhoe, stolen earlier from Los Alamitos and found in a canyon area northeast of El Toro, Orange County sheriff’s deputies said. As Gloshen and the group from Monte Collins Backhoe & Equipment worked to retrieve the machinery, someone opened fire, investigators said. The gunman, who was not immediately identified, was killed by another police officer on the scene, officers said.
