GRATTERI, Sicily —
A farmer has found an edible mushroom weighing 42 pounds and measuring 8 feet in circumference, authorities reported Wednesday.
Salvatore Terracina found the 20-inch tall mushroom on his property near Gratteri, a hill town on the north coast of Sicily. He said he planned to use it as the basis of a banquet for friends and relatives.
The mushroom is of a species that normally grows to a maximum weight of about 11 pounds, local experts said.
