Purses for stake races at New York...
Purses for stake races at New York tracks will be cut 15%, starting Nov. 23, the New York Racing Assn. said.
The NYRA gave no reason for the reduction, but it is believed to be related to a recent change in jockey fees after a 13-day strike.
Under the new pay scale, jockeys receive 10% of the purse for finishing first, 5% for finishing second and 5% for finishing third. Under the old system, jockeys were paid 10% for winning, but received flat fees for finishing second and third.
